Dramatic Five-Hour Rescue: Local Vet Helps Save Missing Cat “Alfie”

Alfie, a 10-year-old cat, was found wedged in a gap just 10cm wide between two brick walls in a residential garden. It’s believed he had fallen from a nearby roof and become stuck around 1.5 metres down, leaving him completely unable to move.

Hours of Effort and a Race Against Time

Animal rescue officers from the RSPCA and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service worked tirelessly for several hours to try and free Alfie. Despite multiple attempts using specialist equipment, the confined space and surrounding debris made it nearly impossible to reach him safely.

As time went on, concerns for Alfie’s welfare grew—and that’s when our team was called in to assist.

Rob Steps In

Our very own Rob attended the scene and played a crucial role in the rescue. With space extremely limited and no safe way to manually extract Alfie, Rob carefully administered sedation in a highly controlled and challenging environment.

This delicate intervention allowed rescuers a critical window to finally free Alfie after hours of unsuccessful attempts.

A Successful Outcome

Thanks to the combined efforts of everyone involved, and Rob’s expertise, Alfie was safely removed from the wall.

Following his rescue, Alfie was assessed and found to be in good condition, aside from some minor matting.

An Incredible Reunion

In an amazing twist, a microchip scan revealed Alfie had been missing since 2022. Even more incredibly, his owners were located just two roads away, leading to an emotional same-day reunion.

Why This Matters

This rescue highlights not only the importance of teamwork between emergency services and veterinary professionals, but also the life-changing impact of microchipping.
